Lake Pueblo North Boat Ramp closes Oct. 31; South Ramp remains open

The South Marina and South Boat Ramp at Lake Pueblo State Park remain open after the North Boat Ramp closes Oct. 31 for public safety related to the ongoing rebuild of the North Marina led by The O'Neil Group. 

PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado Parks and Wildlife closes the North Boat Ramp at Lake Pueblo State Park at 6 p.m. Oct. 31, sending boaters to the South Boat Ramp for access to the reservoir beginning Nov. 1. The North Boat Ramp parking lot and adjacent beach close to the public for construction at North Shore Marina at the same time.

All boating activity this winter moves to the South Boat Ramp which opens daily 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. for required boat aquatic nuisance species inspections and water access. After 6 p.m. boaters can depart through the South Boat Ramp’s automatic exit gate.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife and The O'Neil Group signed a contract in 2025 for the rebuilding of the North Marina. While contractors worked around ongoing recreation last winter, contractors now require full access to the North Marina to ensure space for cranes, dock components and other equipment. The North Boat Ramp is within that work area requiring closure for visitor and contractor safety.

“We understand that this may be an inconvenience for some boaters who prefer to access the reservoir from the North Boat Ramp,” said Joe Stadterman, Lake Pueblo State Park manager. “Closing this ramp ensures the safest possible environment for crews to rebuild the marina.”

The O'Neil Group installed new wave breaks this summer and plans to demolish old docks this winter. Its plans call for new docks, an accessible ramp and main walkway, and new electrical service. Work on the first of two planned construction phases is expected to continue into April, weather permitting. 

The contractor’s announcement in 2025 highlighted plans for a rebuilt marina with 715 slips for boats up to 65 feet long, a new store with a restaurant, laundry facilities, more fuel capacity and additional pump-out stations. 

“We appreciate boaters' patience as construction begins,” said Kevin O'Neil, owner of The O'Neil Group. “Closing the site for the winter gives our contractors the access and room they need to rebuild the marina in a manner safe for the public.”

The North Shore Marina store will close Oct. 31 and fuel sales will stop for the winter. The operator is providing separate information to slip renters about their boats, personal property and access during construction. Marina customers may call (719) 547-3880 with questions.

The park's north-side group picnic areas and overflow parking lot south of the North Boat Ramp will remain open. North-side campgrounds will close for the season.
