Former Koshare Raises Concerns Over Museum Art Auction and Boys Ranch Purchase

Description: Former Koshare and Eagle Scout John R. Baker raised concerns about the Koshare Museum art auction, Boys Ranch purchase, board authority and potential legal questions...

Koshare Museum Art Auction at Jackson Hole Auction
Koshare Museum Board,
As a former Koshare and Eagle Scout, I am increasingly concerned about the purchase of the Boy's Ranch, it's financial viability, and the legality of both the purchase as well as the sale of art from the Koshare Museum collection to finance the purchase.
I have learned that the auction to support the purchase took place on Friday September 18, 2026 at the Jackson Hole Art Auction.
I am concerned that the Koshare Museum Board's purchase of the Boy's Ranch, the entry into a loan and the proposed sale of artwork—including any works held in trust—may not comply with the Museum's bylaws or applicable Colorado law. Specifically, it is unclear if any of these actions are valid given the number of Museum Board members at the time of these actions. The lack of required number of members is particularly important with respect to selling or collateralizing artwork held in trust.
Because there may be legal consequences should the auction move forward, I respectfully ask that the Museum Board not sell, auction or collateralize art until the number of Museum Board members and voting records at the times of these actions can be validated.
Further, I reserve the right to refer these matters to the Colorado State Attorney General.
Sincerely,
John R. Baker
