Head-On Crash Causes Fatality on Highway 160

(Archuleta County, COLO) – On October 15, 2026, at about 8:22 p.m., the Colorado State Patrol responded to a two-vehicle head-on crash on Highway 160 milepost 131, west of Pagosa Springs.

The initial investigation shows a Nissan Xterra, driven by a 21-year-old female from Del Norte, CO, was westbound on Highway 160 near milepost 131. A Subaru Forester, driven by a 55-year-old female from Albuquerque, NM, was eastbound on Highway 160 at the same location. The Xterra went across the painted center median and into the eastbound lane and struck the Forester head-on. The Xterra came to rest in the center median. The Forester was pushed off the side of the road.

The driver of the Xterra was transported to an area hospital by ground for serious injuries. The driver of the Forester was transported to an area hospital by ground and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital. The first passenger of the Forester, a 17-year-old female from Albuquerque, NM, was transported by ground to an area hospital for serious injuries. The second passenger of the Forester, a 17-year-old female from Albuquerque, NM, was transported by ground to an area hospital for serious injuries.

The road was temporarily closed for the investigation but has since been reopened.
