Obituary
Donald Ray Jones, 92, passed away on October 31, 2026, in his home at Evergreen Gardens in La Junta, CO with his family by his side. He was born in Birch Tree, Missouri to Thomas Ray Jones and Hazel Bockman Jones. He married Beverly Reed on June 14, 1953, in La Junta, CO beginning a life together that would be filled with family, faith and many memories. They were blessed with three children and made their home in the Arkansas Valley. They moved to Pueblo in 1999. Don and Beverly returned to La Junta in 2017. They also spent 14 summers in Howard, CO where Donald enjoyed fishing and they took many trips in the surrounding mountains.
Donald was a farmer. He started helping on the family farm in Missouri with his father and grandfather when he was 6 years old. He learned to appreciate farm life so much that after his family moved to Colorado when he was 14, he continued to help farm. Eventually, after he and Beverly were married, they bought a farm by Holbrook Lake. Donald also worked for the railroad and in 1971 moved to Cheraw after selling the farm. Although he had many stories to tell of railroad life, he always said he liked farming the best. He was a good storyteller and there were many told about his days on the farm in Missouri. Donald was also an avid fly fisherman and enjoyed watching baseball and rodeos
Donald is survived by his three children, Sheila (Kelly) Clodfelter, Mary Lee Garrett, both of La Junta and Curt (Janeen) Jones of Pueblo; grandchildren, Lori (Jake) Martinez, Sean (Lisa) Clodfelter, Wendy Peabody, K.C. Messick, Donnie (Caitie) Jones, and Chloe(Jon Garcia) Jone; eleven great grandchildren; Blaise Medina, Harley Medina, Isaiah Peralta, Sadie Martinez, Mitch (Jan) Peabody, Kaylee Peabody, Tanis Aragon, Jonnie Clodfelter, Ashlyn Clodfelter, Ashton Masson and Natalie Jones; two great-great grandchildren Juniper and Woodrow Peabody and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his wife Beverly; parents, Hazel & Thomas Jones and sisters, Dorothy Petty, Sue Jones, and Lue Johnston.
Donald’s family is especially grateful to the staff at Evergreen Gardens for the kindness they provided as well as the Arkansas Valley Hospice staff for their support during Donald’s final journey.
