Lakewood Police Agent Shot and Killed in the Line of Duty
11/5/26
At approximately 6:30 pm on the evening of November 5, 2026, Lakewood Police responded to a call of a suspicious person near the
intersection of West Colfax Ave. and Wadsworth Blvd. A suspect from an earlier hit and run incident was spotted boarding an RTD bus heading northbound.
Lakewood agents came in contact with the suspect on the bus, when the suspect began firing at agents. Lakewood agents fired back, killing the suspect. The suspect's name is not being released at this time. A bystander was also injured in the incident. The extent of their injuries are unknown.
Four Lakewood agents were shot during the incident and taken to local hospitals, suffering from serious to critical injuries. Three of our agents are in stable condition. Our hearts are with them and their families as they work towards healing and recovery.
The Lakewood Police Department is devastated to announce that one of our agents has died as a result of their injuries. Words cannot express the profound sorrow our department and community feel tonight over the loss of our fallen hero, who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to Lakewood. Our hearts are heavy, and we stand shoulder-to-shoulder with their loved ones, lifting them up in unwavering support, love, and prayer during this unimaginable time. We are not releasing our agent's name at this time.
The First Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team will be investigating this case as per protocol.
The Lakewood Police Department wants to thank all of the first responders who raced to aid our downed agents and community members. We would also like to thank our community for the support they have already shown our Lakewood Police family.
We will give further updates tomorrow after we have reviewed the tremendous amount of incoming information.
Please note that this information is preliminary and subject to verification.
As we process the loss of our fallen agent and surround the three agents injured in last night’s shooting and their families with our love and support, our surrounding law enforcement partners have graciously stepped up to take care of our city.
Over the next several days, you will notice patrol vehicles and uniforms from neighboring agencies throughout Lakewood. They are stepping in to handle our patrols and respond to calls for service so that our agents and staff have the dedicated space to grieve, support one another, and begin to heal as a department family.
We are deeply grateful to our partner agencies for covering our shifts, and to our Lakewood community for the overwhelming outpouring of love, strength, and prayers during this devastating time.
If you see these visiting officers out in the community, please join us in thanking them for helping protect our home while we take care of our own.
