Obituary

James (Butch) Kent Thayer, Jr. had a deep love for the Lord and his family. He was called to his eternal home to be with Jesus on August 7, 2024, at the age of 65.

Jim is survived by his father, Jim Thayer Sr. (Janet), of La Junta, CO; his beloved wife, Adriana M Thayer, Las Animas, CO, children, Pamela Morris, Sarasota FL, Trey Thayer, Mater, KS, Trista (Jeremy) Pryor Las Animas, CO, Jeremiah Skinner, Pueblo, CO, Bianca Skinner, Thorton, CO, and Jaqulyn Skinner Las Animas CO, siblings: Kim (Randy) Reeves of Olney Springs, CO, Mike (Sheila) Ham of Westcliffe, CO, Jeff Ham of Denver, CO, Mark (Heather) Thayer, Naples, FL, Rob (Kim) Thayer, Pensacola, FL, and Ken Ham (Vicky), Fountain, CO; He is preceded in death by Mother, Shirley (Cliff) Stuart of Hasty, CO, Sister, Paula Kay Ham, Stepfather, Kenneth Ham, and Stepmother, Joy Thayer.

Jim was born on May 5, 1959 in Orlando, FL to Jim Thayer and Shirley Roberts. He graduated from Las Animas High School in 1977. Directly after high school, Jim joined the Air Force and served for four years, earning, "Outstanding Unit Award", "Good Conduct Medal", "Longevity Service Award", and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon". Upon returning home, he and his brother Mike began a career in construction where their hard work and persistence kept them going for over 40 years.

His children want to remember him as a dad that knew how to work hard but also play hard, as he loved fishing, hunting, camping, boating and wrestling. They also remember him as a father who gave good advice and encouraged them to pursue their goals.

His wife, aka Baby Doll, and family will remember Jim for his great big heart, his generosity, his wit, his willingness to help others, and his warm welcoming kitchen where he made the best green chili and hosted many memorable Thanksgiving dinners. In addition to his cooking, Jim like to tend to his garden and pick asparagus with his wife, play guitar, sing, dance, and read the bible. Jim could also be found outside tinkering on an airplane, boat, motorcycle ...well.. just about anything that went vroom, vroom.

Jim's favorite bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6; Trust in the LORD with all you heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. His strong faith in God was his strength up to the final moment when God called him home.

A memorial for Jim will be held in the upcoming weeks. We will notify all friends and family with the details. Bellwood Ustick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
