Letter from Lamar Fire and Emergency Services:
We at Lamar Fire Department are saddened to announce that our former Fire Chief and City Administrator Jeff Anderson has passed away. Chief Anderson started as the Lamar Fire Chief in the spring of 1991 to 1999. Chief Anderson became the City of Lamar Administrator in 1999 to 2006 when he retired. After retirement Jeff and his wife Jan moved to the Denver area where he enjoyed mowing the Buffalo Run Golf course and played on it in the afternoon. Jeff often spoke that he had the best retirement as he spent time with his loving wife and playing golf in a stress-free environment.
Before joining us at Lamar Fire Chief Anderson was an active-duty service member of the US Navy as a deep-sea diver. Chief Anderson served with the Pueblo Fire department for approximately 30 years obtaining a rank of Assistant Chief. Chief Anderson was also a founding member of the Pueblo West Fire department and became the departments first Fire Chief before joining the Lamar Fire Department.
While serving as the Lamar Fire Chief, Jeff established the NFPA hose, pump, and ladder testing that is still in place today. He initiated one of the first Automated External Defibrillator programs for basic life support for prehospital care in Colorado. Chief Anderson established multiple training and higher education programs including injury prevention. Jeff wrote a state EMS grant entitled “Education Means Success” that encouraged kids of all ages to stay away from drugs and alcohol. Chief Anderson obtained a Cadillac Ambulance that traveled the State of Colorado in association to the drug prevention program.
Chief Anderson was an asset to the City of Lamar as well as Southeast Colorado Emergency services. This is only a small fraction of his accomplishments that have and will always benefit Emergency services statewide. He had left a legacy throughout the State of Colorado in Emergency services that will not be forgotten. We thank you for everything you’ve done on behalf of the City of Lamar and Prowers County residents.
