Ferris Fire Grows to 57,356 Acres as Crews Battle Extreme Fire Behavior Near Dolores River Canyon

The Ferris Fire continued to show extreme behavior today – July 7 – as firefighters work toward full suppression of the now 57,356-acre fire. Current containment sits at 19%. There are 620 people assigned to the fire.

Fire managers put large air tankers in play early in the day to help shore up containment efforts along the fire’s northern edge south of Forest Road 504. A pair of scooper planes worked north of Benchmark Lookout for much of the day as well, drawing water from McPhee Reservoir.

The fire continued to move through the Dolores River Canyon moving north past the Dolores Canyon Overlook and south through the finger canyon near County Road P.
